Warrigal’s World Class Aged Care Precinct at Shell Cove on Track

On 15^th July, Warrigal CEO Mark Sewell, academics and leaders from a range of stakeholders were shown around the construction site at Shell Cove adjacent to the Marina. They viewed progress of the innovative 128-suite residential care home as well as the impressive public gathering community space to be known as “The Quay”.

Warrigal’s CEO Mark Sewell said, “Warrigal is providing a very innovative approach to our new Shell Cove community by offering every type of support and care service, all in the one location.”

“People can live here from their retirement, until the end of their lives. This project aims to provide the type of services never seen before in this area, with everything older people want all on one site and fully open to the public. It truly will be an inspiring community for older people,” Mr Sewell said.

“The Quay community space will be a contemporary shared space incorporating cafés, bistros and lounges. Residents and their family and friends will also have access to many Club Warrigal services and activities which will provide an ultimate retirement lifestyle,” Mr Sewell said.

The $42 million project had received $17 million in funding through the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Illawarra Infrastructure Fund.

NSW Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast Gareth Ward said, “In addition to the much needed aged care facilities that will be provided, this project will provide a significant economic benefit for the local area through the generation of 366 construction jobs and, once completed, 128 ongoing, direct care jobs.”

In addition to the care home and community space, the project also includes 47 luxury apartments, 33 private villas and six fully-serviced apartments as part of its new community village. Construction commenced in August 2015 and the Residential Care Home, Community Club House and the 33 villas are due for completion in mid-2017. The remaining development is set to be completed in 2018.

Construction Update

Construction of Warrigal Shell Cove – the heart of the Marina, is well underway and future residents are very excited to see their new homes taking shape. These aerial photos taken in May 2016 give a great view of the progress of the Villas and The Quay, which is our contemporary shared space incorporating café, bistro and lounges.

All external earthworks are now complete. A large majority of the villa concrete slabs are complete whilst seven villas already have frames erected with carpenters progressing quickly on the remaining villas.

Roofers have started onsite and shortly bricklayers will commence.

The ground floor of The Quay is now completely poured with internal walls commencing in the coming weeks.
