High Tea Event

As part of Warrigal’s commitment to building our new Shell Cove community, we were honoured to host a High Tea for our new Shell Cove residents. This was a fabulous opportunity for all the current deposit holders to get to know their future neighbours in a wonderful social gathering.

The event was held at the beautiful Ravensthorpe with lots of delicious treats, great company and some fabulous outfits. The new residents were provided with updates on construction and also able to participate in discussions about ideas for their future community.

Warrigal will be hosting many more engagement events to ensure future residents are involved in making decisions about their new community.

Warrigal Shell Cove Marina Village – Strongbuild selected

WEB Strongbuild-mark on site nov

Illawarra-based care and retirement living provider Warrigal has been overwhelmed with its response to the first and now second stage release of its prime positioned Shell Cove Community Village. All 33 villas in the first release were snapped up in the first few days, similarly all 27 apartments were deposited – hot off the plans within two weeks.

After a selective tender process, Warrigal has announced that local South Coast builder ‘Strongbuild’ has been selected to start work on the 1st stage of the Community Village,

Strongbuild was established in 2000 in Berry on the South Coast of NSW, and today has offices both in Berry and Sydney. It proudly remains a rare blend of cutting edge technology and good old fashioned values. They have a strong portfolio in the retirement sector and with the HIA NSW Region, Special Purpose Housing award under their belt they’re all set to start early works in December at the Warrigal Shell Cove site

Warrigal CEO, Mark Sewell said, “We are delighted to have appointed Strongbuild as our builder for our new flagship village at the Shell Cove mariner. There are currently about 184,000 Australians living in retirement villages and this is projected to grow to 382,000 by 2025. We are doing our part in meeting the increased demand in retirement accommodation,” Mr Sewell said.

Construction began in early August 2015 on the $70 million project, which includes both much needed residential care homes and community facilities. The new village will also provide a range of important services for older people who reside outside the village. Overall, it will play a significant part in the overall Shell Cove Marina precinct.

NSW Minister for Regional Development John Barilaro said the NSW Government was ‘proud to contribute $17 million from the Restart NSW Illawarra Infrastructure Fund to the state-of-the-art, 128-bed, aged-care facility and community hub’, which forms part of the Shell Cove Marina Community Village.

“Using the proceeds from the long term lease of Port Kembla, the NSW Government has been able to contribute to a worthwhile infrastructure project, which will deliver 366 jobs during construction and 128 direct care jobs when completed in 2017.”

Illawarra based care & retirement living provider Warrigal is due to deliver a much needed lift to the Illawarra economy via their innovative new retirement and aged care community at Shell Cove according to Warrigal CEO Mark Sewell and Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier for the Illawarra and South Coast Gareth Ward.

This project is jointly funded by Warrigal and the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Illawarra Infrastructure fund.

“With site works due to commence in July, the Warrigal Shell Cove project will provide 366 jobs during construction injecting $43.3 million into the local economy.  Upon completion a further 128 permanent direct care jobs will contribute to a further economic output of $166.6 million,” Mr Sewell said.

“Warrigal Shell Cove will be an exciting place for older people who grant us the privilege of offering them support through all the stages of their lives, and represent a significant milestone in the evolution of our organisation.

We are proud to be setting new benchmarks in quality, innovation and sustainability with this project,” Mr Sewell said.

“A $17M boost from the Restart NSW Illawarra Infrastructure Fund will assist construction of a much needed residential care home, and community facilities for older people. The new village will also provide a range of accessible services for older people in the region, and plays a significant part in the new Shell Cove Marina precinct,” Mr Ward said.

“The NSW Government is proud to be partnering with Warrigal in an effort to boost aged care opportunities in our region not to mention the importance of the jobs that will flow from this investment and this project.

“This is yet another example of the Restart NSW Illawarra Infrastructure fund boosting the Illawarra economy by partnering with respected local businesses to provide real outcomes that change people’s lives for the better.

Warrigal’s brand new Shell Cove community incorporates high thermal performance glazing and building fabric throughout to achieve a 6 star NatHERS rating (National House Energy Rating Scheme, guaranteeing each dwelling provides both a high degree of thermal comfort and energy efficiency.

Pursuant to Warrigal’s Environmentally Sustainable Design Standard the new community also features energy efficient LED lighting, rainwater tanks to collect water for use in gardens and toilet flushing, solar photovoltaic systems and is orientated to make use of prevailing winds and local climatic conditions.
