Work commences at Warrigal Shell Cove

The sod turning of the innovative new Warrigal Shell Cove community village is set to commence today.

The event will be attended by the Minister for Ageing, Minister for Disability Services, and Minister for the Illawarra, John Ajaka.

“We are excited to be moving into the construction phase of our next development, in partnership with the NSW State Government” said Warrigal CEO Mark Sewell.

The construction of Warrigal Shell Cove will provide 366 jobs and inject $43.3 million into the building sector.

Warrigal Shell Cove is due for completion in 2018 and will feature 47 apartments, 33 villas, 6 serviced apartments and a 128 suite residential care home.

Retirement living provider, Warrigal, will inject a much-needed lift into the Illawarra with their innovative new community village, Warrigal Shell Cove, according to Warrigal CEO Mark Sewell and Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier for the Illawarra and South Coast, Gareth Ward.

“The project will provide 366 jobs during construction injecting $43.3 million into the local economy. Upon completion a further 128 permanent direct care jobs will contribute to a further economic output of $166.6 million” said Mr Sewell.

Mr Ward stated that a $17 million boost would come from the Restart NSW Illawarra Infrastructure Fund to assist the construction of the community village.

“The NSW Government is proud to be partnering with Warrigal in an effort to boost aged care opportunities in our region not to mention the importance of the jobs that will flow from this investment and this project” Mr Ward said.

Set to be an innovative coastal community for older people, Warrigal Shell Cove will feature a 6 star NatHERS (National House Energy Rating Scheme) Rating and an Environmentally Sustainable Design Standard.
